For those wishing to enter the world of professional (commercial) photography but are unable to join any training program due to their present job or another ongoing educational course, this is an ideal option. While one can do this simultaneously with another job or course, the flexibility this course offers,  doesn't compromise on the quality of education and training. All the students will get intensive hands-on training and access to plenty of studio time. Its an ambitious learning program, that brings all aspects of commercial photography, from people to product and from architectural to food into a single course to create competitive professionals out if its graduating students.


The course begins from the basics of photography and covers all aspects of commercial photography, including practical knowledge of assisting a mentor or running one's own show, to handling business and people, its a comprehensive commercial photography course that prepares the students for the professional world - to be able to break into the industry and make a place of their own.

Echoing the diversity of the faculty, the hands-on practical classes are held in different and real working environments . Udaan School of Photography has three separate studios/classrooms, a library, computer room etc.. The students often get to work and interact with actual professionals like food stylists, models, make-up artists and other advertising professionals, during their course -- exactly what a photographer has to deal with in the professional world.

Equipped with an effective portfolio and with the experience of having learnt in a multi-studio environment during the course at Udaan, the students will be ready to step-out in the professional world with confidence and the Udaan edge.

The regular faculty of the Udaan consists of  Tarun Vachhar, Bharat Mirchandani, Kedar Malegaonkar,  Bharat Lakhani, and Arko Datta. This is apart from several guest faculty and speakers comprising of leading photographers, art directors, artists etc.

The course begins in Mumbai from 2nd July 2018.

01) Foundation Course (one month)

a) Introduction to photography
b) Understanding photography as a profession - commercial/editorial/wildlife/Travel etc
c) Basic understanding of Documentary photography/photojournalism and commercial photography
and their relationship to each other. Using different styles.
d) Basic Photography (techniques and using camera creatively/understanding light)
e) Understanding digital photography workflow
f) Outdoor Photography / Nature and Landscape photography
g) Understanding all kinds of portraiture - editorial, studio/commercial, fine art etc
h) Basic Photoshop


02) Exploring Creativity (one month)

a) Photography as a fine art
b) Developing a creative eye
c) Artistic understanding of light and composition
c) Using camera to capture mood and emotions and as a tool to tell stories
e) Understanding Documentary photography/photojournalism
f) Understanding commercial photography and basics of artificial lighting
g) Basic types of artificial lights and light modifiers
h) Setting up lights for people photography
i) Natural light portraiture vs artificial light portraiture
j) Understanding flash photography
k) Combining different kinds of lights (natural/artificial, hot lights/electronic flash)
l) Advanced photoshop


03) Emerging technologies (one month)

a) DSLR Videography and editing and sound editing
b) Multimedia
c) Panorama and time lapse
d) Light Painting
e) HDR

04) Specialisation in Commercial Photography (nine months) *

a) Introduction to Commercial photography
b) Understanding artificial lights
c) In-depth understanding of types of lights and light modifiers
d) Technical mastery of complex equipment
e) Strobes and flash to achieve colour and composition, etc
f) Variety of lighting and camera techniques
g) Understanding and setting up your studio
h) Still life, food and product photography (with actual food stylists)
i) People Photography - portraits/fashion/glamour/beauty etc (with actual models, make-up artists etc)
j) Interior and Architectural photography (theory and on-location)
k) Post-Production, Adobe Photoshop, Digital illustrations, retouching and special effects.
l) Understanding the commercial photography industry
m) Working with people (Art directors/clients/modelling agencies/etc)
n) Studio management
o) Basic Accounting/Copyright laws/Contracts & Licensing /Negotiating fees/General business protocol
p) Projects - simulating actual work environment
q) Portfolio Development (and Resume writing)
r) Understanding professional goals, business plans, marketing tools and photography markets
s) Work review and strengthening areas of weaknesses
t) Online exhibition of student's work and display of portfolio of each student on individual webpages

COURSE FEE : Rs 2,00,000 plus service tax
(The fee can also be paid in 3 equal installments of Rs 77000 each. Contact admission office for more details )

Class timings : 5.00 pm to 9.00 pm (subject to convenience of student & faculty)
Five days a week - between Monday & Friday
(Two to three classes a week and the rest of the days are practical training sessions which are optional as per the convenience of the students)

Studios shall also be frequently available for practice during weekends too
